As you do, I looked up, only to see him smiling his smiliest smile at another nice looking middle aged man slowly driving past me in a beautiful open topped BMW.
And I bumped into someone I haven't seen in ages recently.
'You look well,' she said.
'Fat,' I joshed. 'You mean I look fat. The middle aged spread is setting in.'
Looking me up and down, 'It suits you,' she said.
*Unfriends* *Pours away wine.*
Then my darling 7 year old topped it off:
So that's all me put in my place for a while, hasn't it?
I'm definitely losing 'it,' if, indeed I ever had it!
How about you?
Post partum hair loss has set in and I am losing so much daily that I reckon I'll be bald within 3 days. Plus about a fifth of it is grey, which you don't notice when it's at the back of your head but you certainly notice it when you keep pulling it off your arms, shoulders and loads on the wooden floors. The comb and shower are the worst though. Sorry to hear about the wolf whistle and the unfriend and the boy, but you know you're gorgeous right!?!? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteYou are too kind! Sorry to hear about the hair loss - very common after a baby though, I think. It all builds up beforehand and you lose what you normally would have ....maybe? *crosses fingers* You're a stunner yourself hun xxxxxx
DeleteOh you aren't losing it at all, you're just not embracing it! Women get more and more beautiful in every stage of their lives, we are just conditioned to think the opposite. Instead of focusing on the middle age spread and the fact you're no longer attracting a certain kind of attention, maybe try thinking about all the other things you can attract in this stage of your life. We have different qualities as maiden, mother, and crone, so embrace each one! Lots of love to you xx
ReplyDeleteYou're very kind as well - very positive, thank you. Had to google the crone thing and hope I'm not there yet!!!
DeleteI've never had much of a shape, very straight up and down. Now, with the middle age spread settling in, it's worse than ever. So depressing.
ReplyDeleteIt's taken me completely by surprise as I thought it had already come and now it's come some more! Depressing indeed! Definitely losing 'it' not 'that...' xx
DeleteThis made me laugh! I never had it to lose, to be honest, and now I've got to the age now where you become invisible. The plus side is that nobody notices me anymore so I don't get any comments!
ReplyDeleteOh I don't believe you for a second, especially re what you've written about lately! Glad to have made you laugh at my expense xx
DeleteOne of my friends little boy cracked me up the other day - his Mum got out of the shower, and said "I feel like a million dollars" - to which he replied "well I think you look like about 87 dollars"... (he's only six, so I guess he's allowed to get away with it)
ReplyDeleteOh classic! I expect $87 is a great deal of money to him though and, hopefully, meant that way, lol!
DeleteI get, Mummy, if you don't me mentioning it, you're a little bit fat. Thanks darling, I know.
ReplyDeleteOh I get the same, but perhaps not quite so gently! xx
DeleteOh bless you, you are a gorgeous lady and have nothing to worry about at all. I always think the same when people tell me that I look well too, but hey I'm too busy to diet
ReplyDeleteOh you are funny but thank you. You always look georgeous to me too and perhaps we should learn to take a compliment! xx
DeleteI get this, age is such a diifocult customer it plays tricks on is. Making unexpected changes. Magazines are so full of information on every tiny bit of life for younger women. Suddenly, we become a little forgotten and invisible. We just have to keep reminding each other it's ok. It's all good. (Frankly, unless we do it ourselves it's not coming from anyone else). You are fabulous, in many ways. X
ReplyDeleteYou are so kind, Gemma and I'm glad you understand and have put it in a way I hadn't thought of. You're right, we're noticed less and we don't even notice we're noticed until we're not iykwim! YOU are fabulous in many ways and we should tell each other more xxxx
Delete"I see you are maintaining your weight"
ReplyDeleteCame out of an actual friend's mouth once.
You are not losing it at all, you evolving to be even more gorgeous than you were before
Ouch! That's not very nice, however you interpret it?! You are very kind too thank you - evolving is a good word. Can't see the gorgeous bit, but let's pretend ....
DeleteOh bless Anya, don't you just love your 7-year-old? I'd say that was probably a compliment from your son... don't be too disheartened. You are still amazing :o)
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed, he's by far my biggest fan on the planet and says what he means and it would have been meant as a compliment! You seem to have the measure of him! Thank you for your faith and kind words xx
DeleteLosing what exactly, anyway? Your ability to pull? ;)
ReplyDeleteLife does actually get better as you get older. Different, but better. You have so much to look forward to! :)
Oh losing the ability to attract a wolf whistle I suppose! They're probably illegal in this country by now anyhow ;) I am enjoying life more as I get older, Sarah and am glad I have more to look forward to, thank you :)
DeleteNo way in the world you are losing it foxy lady. You are one classy chick Anya xx
ReplyDeleteOh stop it. Honestly wasn't expecting this kind of reaction! xx
DeleteIf I look as good as you when I'm your age then I'll be absolutely thrilled!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh stop it! You've a very long way to go xx
DeleteWhat man whistles at a car anyway? Pah.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing about putting on weight is that it fills out the wrinkles - shame weight doesn't position itself in the right places: it would be nice to puff out in the face a bit as no-one can see your belly.
And at least your son had you as the beautifulest person, which is a great compliment on its own (just ignore the rabbits)x
Ah, I think he was whistling at the other man Trish! This is Brighton, after all... I agree re the wrinkles. Mine is all around my middle too and it's really tricky to shift, but, as you say, at least someone loves me still! Xx
