Those who've seen the first one will know that there was only one female - Smurfette - originally created by the obligatory baddie Gargamel, in order to trick the others into giving him their magic essence, with which he will bring about the end of Smurkind!
He manages to re-capture her in this film, using a further two fairly funny 'Frankensmurfs' he's made in his Smurfellator - a dippy brother and sassy sister, who cause her a real friction of feelings of loyalty between her 'real' family vs. her 'adopted' one, perfectly portrayed by Perry, calling on her inner smurf, according to the included interview!
Messages are cleverly put across for 21st Century children ,- 'It doesn't matter where you come from, it's where you choose to be' plus how special a step-father's love can be and how it can be smart to choose to see it, something even some of us adults could well do to remind ourselves!
Patrick and Grace are back with their son Blue, now four, but another major role seems to be taken by Gargamel's amazing comedian of a cat, Azrael. The extras to the DVD also include how they managed to make him so convincing - using three real ones and some animation. And another star of the show is Paris, where some of the scenes are set.
There's more action to the sequel than there was in the first and Gargamel is good deal more sinister, but it's still amusing and those of us who don't mind things like 'That's Smurfy's Law' and 'There are no problems, only Smurfertunities' will enjoy it.
